Guadalupe Bridge structure set to be reinforced in 2025

The Guadalupe Bridge is set to undergo the same treatment given to the Kamuning flyover in EDSA by next year.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced a significant rehabilitation project will be done to reinforce the bridge’s structure and better withstand major seismic activities. MMDA Chairman Don Artes has said the bridge retrofitting will take around 17 months and will be started by October 2025.

When rehab works commence, outer lanes of the Guadalupe Bridge will be closed to motorists while a temporary bridge is being eyed to be put up to help ease congestion in the area.

Guadalupe Bridge is one the busiest bridges in Metro Manila with 141,000 vehicles passing through the bridge daily on average. As early as 2012, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has already suggested that rehab work should be done to the bridge after identifying cracks in its columns. With the bridge situated near a major fault line called the West Valley Point, it needs to be structurally sound in case an earthquake occurs.

Funding for the Guadalupe Bridge rehab will come from a JICA loan, and a further comprehensive traffic management plan will be put up by MMDA before retrofitting activities begin on the bridge.
