Honda Civic Type R FL5 units included in HCPI steering recall
Honda Cars Philippines has a steering gearbox recall that involves the FL5 Civic Type R

Last week, we reported about Honda Cars Philippines announcing a recall that affects almost 7,000 units of various Honda vehicles.
First was the high-pressure fuel pump that affects select CR-V RS e:HEV units sold from 2023 to 2024, while the other involves the steering gearbox issue that affects a total of 5,505 units.
This time, we were able to get a hold of the recall document, and found out that among those 5,505 units involved in the steering gearbox issue, 280 units of those include the high-performance Civic Type R FL5 sold between 2023 to 2025. That can be a cause for concern especially for those who regularly take their FL5s to trackdays and spirited driving.
The remaining units involved include 2,762 units of the 2024 model year CR-V, and 2,463 units of the current-generation Civic sold between 2022 to 2024.
The steering gearbox issue is due to the decrease in grease amount in the worm gear, meshing area of the electric power steering gearbox. During use, the sliding resistance in the meshing area increases and torque fluctuation happens while turning the steering wheel. This causes the abnormal noise or sticky steering that the driver can feel. Fortunately, HCPI says there are no reported cases of road accidents or crashes caused by this issue.
All affected customers are urged to avail inspection/replacements for these affected parts, as this will be done by HCPI free of charge. In case of repair of the steering gearbox, it will only take about half an hour. But for those in need of replacement, the work will take about four hours.
You can check out HCPI’s website to see if your vehicle is affected by the recall.
