Yes, you read that headline correctly. Hyundai is set to reveal an all-new crossover SUV and it will bear the name Mufasa.

That's right, the crossover shares the same name as a certain character in the 1994 Disney movie “The Lion King”. We're not entirely sure as to why Hyundai decided to name it as such but we're quite sure people will get a kick out of it.

It's not yet officially revealed but images of the said crossover SUV have already been released ahead of its debut. For starters, the Hyundai Mufasa features an imposing front end that's dominated by a prominent grille and vertical LED headlights. Despite being branded as a Hyundai, we cannot help but feel that the Mufasa's look might have been partially inspired by the all-new Kia Sportage. The rear, meanwhile, features a unique taillight design wherein it has an oval-shaped look.

Other exterior features worth mentioning on the Mufasa include a sloping roofline that looks eerily similar to the Tucson, a rear diffuser, gloss black alloy wheels, black side mirror caps, and blacked-out B, C, and D-pillars.

In terms of size, the Hyundai Mufasa will reportedly measure 4475mm long, 1850mm wide, and 1686mm tall. This makes the crossover slightly smaller than the Tucson but slightly bigger than the Kona.

Under the hood, the Mufasa will come with a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder gas engine that will supposedly produce 160 PS. There will reportedly be no hybrid or electric versions of the Mufasa which means it could be touted as a budget crossover.

The Hyundai Mufasa will officially be launched at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show next month and may only be a China-only vehicle given its rather unique name. We can only imagine what the lawyers of Disney are thinking right now given that Hyundai has just used the Mufasa name for a crossover in the People's Republic.
