Is the Ford Territory PHEV set to arrive in PH soon?

Just before the holidays last year, Ford Philippines officially confirmed they will go electrified in 2025. With that, several electrified vehicles from the Blue Oval could make their way here in the not-so-distant future.

In fact, we were able to spot Memorandum Circulars that were issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to homologate the Mustang Mach-E for the Philippine market. Based on the LTO documents, it looks like there will be two variants of the upcoming EV and it will have a range of up to 600 km.

Apart from that, however, Ford Philippines could also bring the refreshed Territory this year. But instead of just having a 1.5L turbocharged engine, the automaker may also offer the plug-in hybrid version that recently made its debut in the PRC.

Based on a recent regulatory approval received by Ford Philippines, the company got the go-ahead to bring a new passenger vehicle that's powered by a 1498cc gasoline engine. It also has a reference weight of 1840 kg which makes it quite a heavy vehicle. After cross-checking the numbers, it appears the Ford Territory PHEV could be on its way here.

Over in its home market, the Ford Territory (AKA Equator Sport) PHEV comes with a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 150 PS and 240 Nm of torque. It's then assisted by an electric motor and an 18.4 kWh battery pack from CATL which gives it a total system output of 218 PS. Power is then shifted to the front wheels via a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). On battery power alone, the Territory PHEV can travel up to 115 km based on the CLTC cycle or up to 95 km when using the WLTC cycle.

With Ford Philippines confirming they will go electrified, the Territory PHEV would make business sense for the Blue Oval since New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) are becoming the latest trend. Combined with the fact that hybrids, PHEVs, and EVs benefit from zero tariffs thanks to E.O. 12, Ford and its customers stand to benefit from this.

Should the Ford Territory PHEV make its way here, does that mean the compact crossover will only be sold as a plug-in hybrid moving forward? Hopefully, we'll find out in the coming months.
