Picture of all-electric BMW i5 leaked before its global debut
As early as March 2023, BMW announced that the all-new 5 Series will be revealed later this year. In addition, an all-electric version dubbed the i5 will also make its global debut. Then in late April, we managed to get a glimpse of the next-generation 5 Series albeit just the rear portion.
Earlier this month, BMW dropped yet another teaser of the upcoming i5 EV sedan – showing us its illuminated kidney grille, unique LED headlights, and a peek inside its high-tech cabin. But until BMW officially takes the covers off, we'll have to wait for its debut on May 24.
Unfortunately for BMW, someone leaked an image of the all-new i5 before its launch next week. Leaked on Instagram by user “liucnyi_starandcar”, we get an early look at the all-electric executive sedan in all its glory.
Despite seeing just one image, it's clear that this is the all-new 5 Series-based i5. Unlike its bigger brother the i7 which has a bulkier appearance, the i5 looks more aerodynamic with the traditional dual LED headlight design, long hood, and dual kidney grille. The signature Hoffmeister kink is ever-present while the sloping roof gives the electric saloon a more coupe-like aesthetic.
We have yet to see the rear of the i5 in full. However, it will most likely be similar to what we already saw last month. With that, we can expect it to have a thin pair of LED taillights, a uniquely-designed trunk lid, and broader shoulder lines.
With its debut set on May 24, 2023, we're only a week away before BMW officially holds its global launch. Here's to hoping BMW reveals more details about the all-new 5 Series and i5 days before the big reveal.
