Looking to get an all-new Porsche Cayenne but want a version that's more enjoyable to drive than a mid-range S but not as serious as the range-topping Turbo? Well, Stuttgart's sports car specialist recently launched a model that slots between the two.
After a brief hiatus, Porsche has officially announced that the 2021 Cayenne GTS will be returning. Launched alongside the sportier-looking Cayenne GTS Coupe, the all-new version sees the return of the V8 as the twin-turbo V6 has been dropped for the third-generation model.
Instead of a 3.6-liter twin-turbo 6 under the hood, the all-new GTS now comes with a bigger 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 derived from the Panamera GTS. With it, the crossover cranks out an impressive 460 PS along with a staggering 620 Nm of torque. This makes the V8 produce 20 more horsepower and torque than the old V6.
Power is then sent to an eight-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel-drive system. 0 – 97 km/h is easily achieved in 4.5 seconds, although it can do it faster in 4.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package (SCP). This makes the new Cayenne GTS faster by 0.4 seconds (0.6 seconds with SCP), as well as hit a top speed of 270 km/h.
Besides getting a meatier powertrain, Porsche was also busy with the Cayenne GTS suspension and exhaust. Beginning with the former, both the standard and coupe models get a revised Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) dampers. Combined with the three-chamber air suspension, the chassis of the GTS sits 30mm lower compared to the Cayenne S. As for the exhaust, the Cayenne GTS gets a new sport system that Porsche claims help to 'create a fitting soundtrack' for the crossover.
To make the Cayenne GTS distinct from the rest of the lineup, this particular model comes with the Sport Design Package with black accents all around the exterior. It has LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), and tinted taillights that give a sportier appearance. The Cayenne GTS also comes with 21-inch RS Spyder alloy wheels painted Satin Black, while the front air intakes, side window trim, exhaust tailpipe finishers, and rear Porsche badge are all painted black.
Alcantara trim is used throughout the Cayenne GTS' interior and can be seen on the headliner, seat centers, center console armrests, and on the door trims. Complementing the Alcantara are the black brushed aluminum accents which further accentuate sportier character of the Cayenne GTS. Finally, there are the eight-way sport seats which come with bigger side bolsters for better support when driving spiritedly.
The 2021 Porsche Cayenne GTS will available in US markets around Q3 of 2020. With that in mind, we can expect the Philippine market to get the Cayenne GTS sometime next year. Currently, Porsche Philippines sells the Cayenne Turbo, the Cayenne S and the standard Cayenne.
