All-electric Spectre will be the first to use this new design
Around 111 years ago, Rolls-Royce introduced the Spirit of Ecstasy, which has since become a symbol of the brand. Today, all Rolls-Royce models that roll out of the factory feature the signature hood ornament. However, it seems even the Spirit of Ecstasy needs a slight redesign once in a while.
Rolls-Royce has introduced the new Spirit of Ecstasy. It stands at 82.73mm tall, almost 20mm shorter than the current version which measures 100.01mm tall. The British marque didn’t just make the decorative piece smaller. The flowing robes (apparently, those are not wings) of the silver lady have been restyled to make the emblem more aerodynamic. Meanwhile, her stance has also been adjusted with one leg in front of the other.
As a result of the change, the new Spirit of Ecstasy has a more aerodynamic shape. Rolls-Royce didn’t say how big of a role the new hood ornament plays in terms of aero, but the redesign took almost 830 hours of modeling and wind tunnel testing. However, not all Rolls-Royce vehicles will use this updated Spirit of Ecstasy design.
The first model to use the new hood ornament will be the upcoming Spectre EV, and it will appear on every new model from here on out. Meanwhile, the current lineup of the Phantom, Ghost, Dawn, Wraith, and Cullinan will continue to wear the original logo.
