Chery TJ-1 compact SUV could boost Chinese brand's presence in PH
Chery officially showed their new sporty TJ-1 compact SUV at Auto Shanghai 2023. It was spied testing about a month ago albeit in a more urban "attire" than the one shown at the auto show.
In its rather "rugged" form, the TJ-1 sports a Ford Raptor-inspired front grille with the Chery brand spelled in big bold letters. While the Chinese representatives from Chery refer to it as a concept, we find this more like a working prototype.
Finished in matte silver with gloss black accents on the front and rear bumpers and more pronounced wheel arches.
A few days later, we managed to spot a similar vehicle testing on the streets of Wuhu in Anhui province. Finished in metallic jade green, this iteration resembled something from its joint-venture partner Land Rover. It did not have the Raptor-inspired grille but instead a different adaptation of the Sunshine Galaxy grille which continued to the headlights.
It had Chery spelled out on the tail light center garnish and only the Tiggo emblem with no number after, which could indicate that the TJ-1 would be a future Chery Tiggo without a numerical assignment yet.
An unnamed source said it would be priced similarly to the Tiggo 7, so we could really be looking at the next-generation Chery Tiggo 7. We do hope to see this in the local Chery lineup in the near future.
