2024 Hyundai Sonata goes under the knife and comes out looking sporty
After being spotted earlier this year out in the open, Hyundai has officially taken the covers off its redesigned midsize sedan. Say hello to the 2024 Hyundai Sonata. According to the Korean automaker, the refreshed Sonata gets more than just an obvious facelift.
The company says it embodies “The Sportiness” with its long hood, eye-catching design, and a more high-tech and sophisticated cabin. Beginning with the most obvious first, the midsize sedan has a low-slung front end and a fastback roofline that accentuates the vehicle's more dynamic appearance.
Like the Stargazer, Staria, and all-new Accent, the refreshed Sonata now sports the brand's now-familiar “Seamless Horizon Lamp” that gives the sedan its unmistakable look. Meanwhile, the “hidden” LED headlights are cleverly placed below the full-width lamp – emphasizing the Sonata's wide stance. As for the long hood, it has sharp character lines.
Further highlighting the Sonata's sportiness is the N Line exterior package. It gives the sedan stylish 19-inch alloy wheels and dual exhaust finishers at the back. Speaking of its rear, the Sonata comes with the new signature H-lights that highlight the vehicle's high-tech image. It also has a swooping spoiler-shaped trunk, adding to the midsize sedan's eye candy.
Pop the doors open and a driver-centric layout greets occupants to match its sporty exterior. But it is perhaps the massive 12.3-inch curved instrument display and equally-sized 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that highlights the Sonata's more high-tech cabin. There's even a touch-type climate control system on the center stack to complement the curved display on the dashboard.
Don't expect to find a gear selector on the center console as Hyundai replaced it with a column-type shift-by-wire controller behind the steering wheel. This allowed the automaker to free up space on the center console, as well as make for a larger armrest and center glovebox. Last but not least, Hyundai claims the updated Sonata has undergone significant upgrades for improved passenger comfort with new color combinations and a more premium look and feel.
Powertrain details for the 2023 Sonata are not yet available. However, it's expected to be available with many engine options including turbocharged engines and electrified powertrains.
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata will be making its public debut at this year's Seoul Mobility Show which is slated to happen this week from March 30 to April 9, 2023.
