One-off sports car made for a special Ferrari client

Here's something people may not know about owning a Ferrari: just because you have loads of cash, doesn't mean you could easily drive a brand new one home. The truth of the matter is, Maranello has to pick you to buy their cars.

But wait for it, that tedious process also reaps a special benefit. If they see you as one of their most loyal and passionate customers, they could actually build you a bespoke Prancing Horse just like this – the all-new Ferrari SP48 Unica.

This is not just another Italia, Speciale, or Pista. The Unica word means what it says. It's a one-off, and it's made for a very special Ferrari client. The SP48 Unica is the latest in a long line of Ferrari one-off specials since the Special Projects program was introduced back in 2007.

Designed in the Ferrari Styling Center under the direction of Chief Design Officer Flavio Manzoni, the SP48 Unica was developed using the F8 Tributo's platform. While it has the F8's mechanicals, the entire body has been radically reshaped together with its external lights. Ferrari streamlined the SP48 Unica's bodywork to give it improved aerodynamics over the F8 Tributo, resulting in a 12% reduction in drag over the F8.

Ferrari did not give a sneak peek at the car's interior but announced that the cabin retains the F8 Tributo's identity albeit with a few improvements such as the black laser-perforated Alcantara upholstery to go along with the “Grigio Canna de Fucile” accents.

As mentioned earlier, the F8 Tributo drivetrain was shared with the SP48 Unica. It's powered by the 488 Pista's 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 with 710 PS and 770 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Performance-wise, Ferrari did not disclose details to the SP48 Unica, but we reckon it should match, or even surpass, the F8 Tributo's 0 to 100 km/h time of 2.8 seconds, and its 340 km/h top speed.

Needless to say, owning an SP48 Unica is nothing more than just a pipe dream. And for the Ferrari customer who would drive home this one-off, you're one lucky son of a gun.
