Suzuki Jimny Rhino Edition limited to only 30 units
If there’s one thing that’s great about the Suzuki Jimny (apart from the fact that it can go off-road despite its small size), it’s the amount of aftermarket support it gets.
From suspension upgrades to exterior/interior body kits to total conversions to make it look like a mini Land Rover Defender or a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, enthusiasts are spoiled for choices to dress up the Jimny.
In Malaysia, Suzuki has decided to give the tiny 4x4 its own tricked-out look. This is the 2023 Suzuki Jimny Rhino Edition, and it’s limited to only 30 units. Finished in a unique Pure Pearl White paint complete with a plethora of exclusive upgrades, the Rhino Edition makes us wish Suzuki Philippines built a similar limited edition for the local market.
But first things first, what’s with the Rhino name and logo? The rhino logo is actually an homage to when British importers first brought the SJ Jimny (AKA SJ410) to the UK during the 1982 Birmingham Motor Show. The spare wheel cover at the back carried a drawing of a rhinoceros which the distributors found to be appealing, prompting them to adopt a redrawn logo in order to convey the SJ410’s toughness and dependability.
As a result, the special edition Jimny carries it throughout the exterior via a special badge and decals. Moreover, the rhino badge is also used on the spare tire cover at the back which serves as a proper throwback. The rest of the exterior sees the mini go-anywhere SUV come with a heritage-style grille, red mud flaps with Jimny branding, side mirror caps finished in chrome, and front/rear differential guards for extra protection while off the beaten path.
Like the regular Jimnys, the Rhino Edition also gets the tried-and-tested 1.5-liter K15B four-cylinder engine. It makes a humble 100 PS along with 130 Nm of torque. The special edition 4x4 is only available with a 4-speed automatic and the selectable 4WD capability complete with a low-range transfer box.
With its limited availability, we won’t be surprised if the 30 units have all been spoken for already. As for the Philippine market, we do hope Suzuki makes a special edition for Filipino customers. But with the 5-Door Jimny set to arrive sometime next year, the company might focus its resources on that instead.
