This Maxus G50 MPV can do over 1,400 km in one tank, full charge
With plug-in hybrids growing more popular, should MG PH bring this particular G50?

MG Philippines wowed everyone last year at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) and during the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) with their lineup of vehicles and previews. With this year's MIAS all set for next month, we're curious if the automaker will eventually launch the all-new MG HS plug-in hybrid crossover.

However, the company might also want to bring an electrified version of the MG G50 Plus MPV. Recently, Maxus revealed a new variant of the G50 Plus (sold under MG in the Philippines) that benefits from a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Called the G50 PHEV, the plug-in version of the MPV serves as the more powerful and more fuel-efficient version of the brand's popular people carrier.
At the heart of the G50 PHEV is a 1.5L plug-in hybrid powertrain that's assisted by an electric motor and an 18.65 kWh battery pack. The result is a total system output of 160 kW or 217 PS and a torque output of 280 Nm. On a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery, Maxus says the G50 Hybrid can cover up to 1,405 km based on the CLTC cycle. On battery power alone, the brand claims the MPV can do up to 85 km without using a drop of fuel. Also worth mentioning is the brand's ability to go from 0 – 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds.

Size-wise, the G50 PHEV measures 4825mm long, 1825mm wide, 1778mm tall, and has a generous 2800mm wheelbase. Depending on customer preference, the G50 Hybrid can have a seating layout of 2+3 (five-seater), 2+2+2 (six-seater), and 2+3+2 (seven-seater). In terms of design, the electrified G50 sports a different look compared to its ICE siblings. It gets a new “Galaxy Wing” front grille, thin LED daytime running lights, low-slung headlights, and new alloy wheels.

The G50 PHEV is currently on pre-sale in its home market and will likely become a popular choice among buyers who want an MPV that's easy on the fuel bills. With that, could we expect MG Philippines to bring the PHEV version of the G50 here?
