Toyota reveals the Rangga Concept as a flexible multi-purpose vehicle

Remember when Toyota revealed the IMV-0 concept late last year? Well, Toyota has been busy making changes and improving it since it was first unveiled to the public. During the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Toyota revealed an improved version of the said concept and now calls it by a different name.

Like the IMV-0, the Rangga concept caters to the various needs and configurations of customers depending on their business or requirement. With a long bed at the back, the Rangga concept is like a canvass of sorts for owners to set up their business mover.

From an ice cream truck to a fire fighting vehicle, as well as an ambulance or a mobile coffee shop, Toyota showed that the concept vehicle is a jack-of-all-trades kind of vehicle. It can even be converted into a mobile camping van to satisfy the needs of those who like to enjoy the great outdoors.

With its pickup truck-like design and body-on-frame construction, Toyota says that the Rangga Concept is tough and sturdy to take on multitudes of tasks. In fact, the name Rangga takes inspiration from the Javanese word “Ronggo” which translates to a hero that is strong and tough.

Toyota did not reveal any specifications or dimensions of the Rangga. However, the concept's adaptability and flexibility further show the vehicle's ability to be set up for a wide range of options. It highlights the utilitarian roots of the concept and serves as a throwback of sorts to the Tamaraw FX of yesteryear.

With Toyota Motor Philippines investing PHP 4.4 billion to locally produce the next-generation Tamaraw, the Rangga is our best look yet at what to expect should the concept evolve into a production model. Hopefully, the automaker actually reveals it next year.
