All-new Chevrolet Montana compact pick-up revealed with 874-liter cargo capacity
After releasing camouflaged photos of its newest compact pick-up truck last week, Chevrolet has officially revealed the all-new third 2023 Montana.
Now sharing its platform with the all-new Trax, the 2023 Montana not only gets a sleeker appearance, but also gets a new turbocharged powertrain under the hood, more high-tech features and amenities, and a more practical and innovative bed.
Starting with its looks, the Montana now has a more lifestyle truck-oriented design which appears to have been inspired by the Hyundai Santa Cruz. It has a crossover-like appearance that consists of sleek LED daytime running lights, a dual-port style grille, black body cladding all around, stylish 17-inch black alloy wheels, functional roof racks, and a high beltline.
But it is perhaps the bed that serves as the main highlight of the 2023 Montana. Despite its rather small size, Chevrolet claims the Montana’s bed can carry up to 874 liters of cargo. In addition, it comes with an optional integrated lid that can be opened or closed electronically to stow away items safe from prying eyes and the elements.
Another important feature of the bed is a built-in multi-board divider which will allow users to put different types of cargo together at the same time. There’s also an optional storage net, bed extender for transporting a motorcycle, storage compartments on the side, a bed organizer which can hold several items up top, hooks for securing cargo, USB-A, and USB-C charging ports, as well as a 12V power socket.
Powering the 2023 Montana is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine. It makes a respectable 135 PS along with 210 Nm of torque and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. If the engine and output figures look eerily similar to the 2024 Trax, that’s because it uses the same three-cylinder turbo albeit slightly detuned for the pick-up. The 2023 Montana is only available as a front-wheel drive (FWD) vehicle with no options for an all-wheel drive (AWD) setup.
Open the doors and occupants are greeted by a simple yet stylish cabin. High-grade models come with leather seats complete with contrast stitching, neat touches of gloss black throughout the interior, as well as a large multi-info display that’s paired with dual gauges. Infotainment comes in the form of an 8-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar, Wi-Fi capability, and a reverse camera.
Other interior amenities present inside the all-new Montana include a wireless charging pad, digital air-conditioning, push-button start, and an optional JBL sound system.
Sales and deliveries of the 2023 Chevrolet Montana will begin in February of next year in Brazil and the rest of South America. There’s no word yet if the all-new Montana will be offered to other markets like the US and other parts of the world. But since it’s now underpinned by a global platform, perhaps other markets may soon produce it for select countries around the world.
