Full-sized Hyundai Palisade and electric Ioniq 5 crossover coming soon to PH

Hyundai is really serious about its electrification plans for the Philippine market. Aside from revamping their lineup with the all-new Creta, Tucson, Staria, and facelifted Santa Fe, Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc (HMPH) is bringing the Ioniq 5 to the country.

You read right, Hyundai's popular all-electric crossover has been confirmed for the Philippines. Just like the confirmation of the Stargazer, HMPH made it official during the formal launching of its new vehicle lineup in the country.

While no specifics were mentioned by Hyundai, the Ioniq 5 could be available with a single or dual electric motor setup. In addition, it has two battery options; either a 58 kWh or a bigger 72.8 kWh unit. The single-motor RWD setup makes a respectable 168 PS while the dual-motor AWD makes a whopping 306 PS. The Ioniq 5 also has an estimated cruising range between 384 km to 460 km, depending on the motor and battery setup.

Aside from the Ioniq 5, HMPH has also confirmed the refreshed Palisade will also be arriving. First revealed at this year's New York International Auto Show, the full-sized three-row SUV gets a more sculpted look along with a revamped cabin. It gets a wider 'Cascading Grille' that is complemented by new vertical LED daytime running lights. The SUV also comes with redesigned bumpers, bolder C-pillars, 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, and tweaked LED taillights.

Step inside and the interior gets an updated dashboard, a new steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a new touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Depending on the variant, the Palisade can come either as a six-seater or as a seven-seater.

In the US market, the Palisade only comes with a 3.8-liter naturally-aspirated V6 with dual CVVT. It makes a potent 295 PS with 355 Nm of torque and is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission. For the Philippine market, the Palisade could be powered by a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine, albeit rated to produce more power and torque than the Santa Fe.

With two more Hyundai vehicles coming to the Philippines real soon, the automaker is gearing up for a new beginning in the local market.
