Report: Upcoming Lotus may be a SUV
Will reinvent the SUV category according to Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales
Lotus's next vehicle may be something of a surprise as company CEO Jean-Marc Gales recently stated that the brand will likely develop their first SUV.
According to Automotive News Europe, the company's board of directors may decide sometime this year to go through with the SUV project, citing reasons that Bentley already has the Bentayga while Rolls-Royce recently revealed their plans on doing a crossover.
Gales also stated that instead of just joining the SUV segment as a competitor, Lotus plans to 'reinvent the category'. Beyond that, the CEO also said that will be very fast on the track and will deliver precise handling.
“We would do an SUV that is very light, very fast on the track and has outstanding handling. I'm a bit torn between an SUV and a four-door sports car -- but in the end I can see that the SUV has the bigger market,” said Gales to Automotive News Europe
