Toyota quietly reveals 2022 RAV4 HEV online, starts at PHP 2.157M
After releasing the first images of its upcoming hybrid crossover last month, Toyota Motor Philippines has (quietly) released the specs and prices of the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid. Dubbed by Toyota as a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), the RAV4 follows the footsteps of the recently updated Camry; meaning the crossover is now only available as an electrified vehicle.
Starting with the exterior, the RAV4 gets a subtle facelift. It gets updated LED headlights, new LED daytime running lights, as well as the signature ’T’ badge that features a blue halo - signifying that it’s a hybrid. It also comes with new LED foglights, refreshed LED combination taillights, and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels (17s on the XLE variant).
Inside, the changes are likewise kept to a minimum. It still comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, push-button start, and a six-speaker sound system. On higher-grade models, full-leather seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, and a moon roof provide extra luxuries inside the RAV4 HEV.
What’s new, however, are the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display, as well as a larger 7-inch multi-info display. The former now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the latter provides additional driving information, particularly with the hybrid powertrain.
Powering the RAV4 HEV is a 2.5-liter inline-four Dual VVT-i engine dubbed the A25A-FXS. The engine is similar to the Camry HEV and makes 178 PS at 5700 rpm along with 221 Nm of torque at 3600 - 5200 rpm. The engine is then helped along by an electric motor that makes an additional 120 PS.
The result is a total system output of 218 PS, 7 PS more than what the midsize sedan makes. Instead of an eight-speed automatic transmission, the RAV4 HEV is coupled to a CVT that drives the front wheels. Sorry RAV4 fans, the hybrid version is only available in two-wheel drive.
For the first time, the RAV4 is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense across all variants. It gets a pre-collision system, automatic high beam, lane-tracing assist, lane departure alert, and dynamic radar cruise control (aka adaptive cruise control).
Other standard safety features available on the RAV4 Hybrid include anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, vehicle stability control, trailer sway control, hill-start assist, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and 7 airbags.
For extra peace of mind, the range-topping LTD variant comes with blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, and a 360-degree panoramic view monitor.
Available colors for the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid include Super White II, Gray Metallic, Red Mica, Grayish Blue, Silver Metallic 3, and White Pearl Crystal Shine (extra PHP 15,000). There are also two exclusive colors for the LTD version; Urban Khaki and Attitude Black Mica.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid now serves as the brand's fifth electrified model in the country. It now joins the likes of the Prius, Corolla Altis HEV, Corolla Cross HEV, and Camry HEV.
Pricing of the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid is as follows:
2.5L XLE HEV CVT - PHP 2,157,000
2.5L LTD HEV CVT - PHP 2,500,000
